Woman ‘heard nothing as lover shot dead’

A WOMAN who carried on sleeping as her lover was shot dead in bed beside her yesterday told a court: “I did not hear a gunshot”.

Keeley Jones, 27, was asleep alongside her three-year-old son and 32-year-old Lee Gray when he was killed with a single bullet to the back of the head.

Miss Jones said she did not awake until she detected a burning smell in the bedroom and looked over and saw blood on Mr Gray.

She sent her son downstairs, dialled 999 and was given life-saving instructions by the operator whom she told: “I just woke up on the side and he was like this.”

A paramedic was called to the house in Worsbrough Dale, Barnsley, whereupon he found Mr Gray in a pool of blood .

Blood was running from his head to his thigh and the bedsheets were two-thirds soaked in blood.

Martin Fieldhouse, 29, is on trial accused of murdering Mr Gray.

The prosecution say Martin Fieldhouse meant to kill his own brother Michael who had been staying at his friend Mr Gray’s house and shot Mr Gray by mistake.

He denies murdering Mr Gray and claims that Michael killed him in a dispute over an £80,000 drugs debt.

The trial continues.
