Woman is struck by train at crossing

A WOMAN was hit by a train at a crossing, transport police said yesterday.

British Transport Police said it was called to Forest Lane Crossing, also known as Belmont Crossing, Forest Lane, Harrogate, after reports a woman had been struck by a train.

A spokeswoman said the incident, just after 8am yesterday, was not being treated as suspicious.

She said: “The female, believed to be approximately 27 years of age, has suffered head injuries. She was treated at the scene by paramedics from North Yorkshire Ambulance Service and has now been taken to Harrogate Hospital.

“The train involved was the 7.56am Knaresborough to Leeds service.”

The incident happened during rush-hour and caused delays and tailbacks for many commuters.
