Woman’s death in reservoir ‘a tragic accident’

Police are treating the death of a pensioner who fell into a reservoir while out walking as a “tragic accident”.

South Yorkshire Police is not set to carry out an investigation into the death of the 88-year-old, who is believed to have been out walking with a friend when she fell into Agden Reservoir, in the Peak District National Park, at about 1pm on Tuesday.

The other woman, thought to be in her 60s, needed hospital treatment for hypothermia after attempting to rescue her friend from the water at Windy Bank, close to the village of Bradfield.

A police spokesman said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and added: “Information suggests the two elderly women were out walking when one slipped down a hill and fell into the water.”
