Working hard to be ready on time

Sarah Jane Jessop was keeping an eye on the weather as she prepared a Limousin bull calf called Brockhurst Famous for the opening of the show this morning.

Ms Jessop, from Stirling, Scotland, is one of the network of professionals who make an income from the pampering and preening required to get an animal looking its best. She and her partner, Dougie McBeath, do preparation and showing through McBeath Livestock Services as a sideline to their own farm.

Meanwhile, Andrew Patterson and Andrew Kennedy from County Antrim, were giving a Holstein-Friesian heifer called Woodmarsh Sanchez Lyme a trendy buzz-cut along the spine and a general trim on behalf of owners James and Sandra Atkinson of Bentham. And they had another nine bookings lined up at the Great Yorkshire, before moving on to the next event.

Fraser Govan of Montrose, Scotland, walked 10-year-old Clydesdale Tam, Supreme Champion of the Royal Highland Show.
