Members of a charity for the blind and partially sighted hope fundraisers will expose themselves to temperatures of 1,200 Fahrenheit next month by taking part in a firewalk over hot coals.

The second York Blind and Partially Sighted Society firewalk will take place at 7.30pm on February 17 at the the Coppergate Shopping Centre, the home of the Jorvik Viking Centre.

Money raised from the event, held as part of the Viking Festival, will go towards the charity’s work assisting people with sight loss, helping them to gain confidence and independence.

Chief officer Diane Roworth said: “This is our second year running the fire walk and we are amazed at the response we get from participants, their bravery and the amount of money they raise. These contributions are essential for us to offer support and services for over 1,000 people in York, helping them to live a full life, no matter what their sight problems may be.”

YBPSS want people who are willing to raise a minimum of £100 to take part. Call Christina Dunn at York Blind & Partially Sighted Society on 01904 636269 or email [email protected] by February 6.
