York school children 'left distressed after being approached by man'

Police say that two children were left "distressed" after being stopped by a man on their way to school in York.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and information following what they describe as a "suspicious incident" in Copmanthorpe.

It happened at around 8.35am on yesertay on Back Lane when two children - whose ages officers have not released - were approached by a man on their way to school.

The man stopped the children close to Trowel House Farm "leaving the children feeling distressed," a force spokesperson said.

"The two children managed to make their way past the man and continue to school.

"We are conducting enquiries and are requesting the public’s assistance to help determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"In particular, we are appealing for information about to help us to identity the man to establish the reason why he stopped the children."

The man is described as white, chubby, around 5ft 7ins tall, and bald.
