Yorkshire: Heat is on again... but make the most of it

But don’t pack the umbrella and overcoat away yet, as the summery weather isn’t here to stay.

Forecasters believe there is a good chance that the peak of 20.7C (69F) recorded in Aberdeenshire on Easter Sunday will be beaten today in the region.

However, the mercury is set to fall back to more seasonable levels over the weekend, while rain is also possible.

Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell said Thursday saw temperatures at around 19C (66F) or 20C (68F).

He added: “Today temperatures will be a little bit higher with highs possibly reaching 21 and if you do see 21 that will mean it is the warmest day of the year so far.”

On current forecasts it could mean Britain is warmer than holiday destinations such as Ibiza and Crete as well as Barcelona and Rome. Doctors have reported seeing a rise in hay fever symptoms.

Meanwhile, riders from three of the British Pro teams, Tom Barras, NFTO, Pete Williams, One Pro Cycling, and Tobyn Horton, Madison Genesis, were riding the Tour of Yorkshire route up past the Cow and Calf from Ilkley which is part of the final stage from Wakefield to Leeds finishing at Roundhay Park.
