Yorkshire's Green Champion honoured

THE impressive environmental work of businesses, residents and community groups from across the region was recognised at a special celebration for the 2010 Yorkshire Post Environment Awards.

The inspiring event was held at the Queens Hotel in Leeds and was hosted by TV presenter Julia Bradbury.

Keynote speaker was Environment Secretary Hilary Benn, who talked passionately of the Government's firm commitment to environmental innovation and of his own vision for a greener Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Forward chief executive Tom Riordan carried off the coveted Green Champion award as the individual deemed to have done most to promote environmental measures, following his visionary work in shifting the region's focus towards a low carbon, green energy-led future.

Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate was named Best Environmental Business for introducing a wealth of green working practices.
