Young children stretch their legs at festive yoga classes

YOUNGSTERS in Leeds are being offered the chance to stretch their imaginations over the festive period.

It is hoped that the offer of a free taster session at a yoga class over the Christmas holidays in the city will help youngsters to relax and calm down as they are introduced to yoga poses through storytelling.

The free taster session is being run by YogaBugs Yorkshire and will be held later this month at Yoga Space in Meanwood Road, Leeds, from 2pm on Thursday next week.

The classes combine yoga and storytelling and are available for pre-school youngsters aged over two-and-a-half years.

They aim to help assist children to learn about yoga alongside adventure-led storytelling, with themes including life on the high seas and the fun of spaceships.

Advocates of yoga for children have claimed that it is non-competitive and allows them to use their imagination while also relaxing.

Organiser Rachel Frazer said: "YogaBugs classes work so well for children because of the story element.

"The children all get the chance to be the heroes of the story and their imaginations get as stretched as their bodies."
