Young dancers on the ball for derby’s half-time spectacular

CHILDREN and young people from schools and colleges in Hull are being put through their paces ahead of a dance spectacular when they will perform in front of thousands of rugby league fans next week.

More than 250 dancers, aged between eight and 20, have been working with instructors from Northern Ballet on a routine they will perform at half-time in the Super League derby between Hull FC and Hull KR at the KC Stadium on Good Friday.

The event is a result of the Don’t Just Sit There project, which aims to encourage people to be more physically active.

This in turn is part of “imove”, the Legacy Trust UK programme for Yorkshire, which is billed as “a new and imaginative celebration of human movement” and brings together the best creative talent from the region to produce a programme of events designed to inspire the public in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Legacy Trust UK is an independent charity set up to create a cultural and sporting legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games across the UK.

Northern Ballet has devised the piece with students from Hull College, St Mary’s College, Sirius Academy and pupils from several city primary schools.

Other live music and dance events will be held on the day.
