Young to get insights into documentaryfilm-making

YOUNG people who are interested in documentary making will have the chance to take part in this year's Sheffield Doc/Fest, to be held in the city in November.

The Sheffield Doc/Fest Youth Jury is open to entries from people aged 16 to 21 from Yorkshire, who can apply through the Screen Yorkshire website.

Heather Croall, director of Sheffield Doc/Fest, said: "We are looking for people with the confidence to stand up and make themselves heard, and who aren't afraid to shout about what they think.

"We want those people to make up the five-strong Sheffield Doc/Fest Youth Jury 2010. You don't need experience, you don't need a media background but you do need to be keen to find out more about how documentaries go from idea to screen."

The five winners will be part of the judging panel awarding one documentary the Youth Jury Award at the festival.

They will also participate in the "Hothouse" project in August, which will include finding out about marketing documentaries, interviewing filmmakers and watching the shortlisted films.

Up to 50 candidates will be invited to a roadshow on Saturday, July 3 to learn about the Youth Jury, ask advice from media experts and learn more about documentaries. The top 15 will then be invited to interviews in Sheffield on Monday, July 12 and Tuesday, July 13.
