Youth snatches pensioner's handbag

DETECTIVES in the Leeds area are appealing for information after a 78-year-old woman was robbed while walking home from a night out playing bingo in Garforth.

The elderly victim was walking home down Barley Hill Road on Sunday at 10.45pm when her handbag was snatched from behind.

The attacker made off on foot towards Garforth Main Street with the victim’s black leather handbag containing a red purse and a small amount of cash.

He was a white youth, 14 to 18 years old, 5ft 3in in tall, of medium build, and was wearing a blue jacket and backpack.

Det Insp Paul Conroy, from North East Leeds CID, said: “Fortunately she suffered only minor injuries during the incident but has been left understandably shaken and upset.”
