Ambitious Davies intends to impress coach Christiansen

HULL STINGRAYS’ forward Matty Davies is aiming to complete the full set of international honours by breaking into the Great Britain squad in time for the World Championships next year.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a stunning 2012-13 Elite League campaign, registering 48 points (nine goals and 39 assists) in 60 games.

That resulted in him being named in the provisional 40-man squad for the World Championships in Hungary, although he did not make the final cut, with GB later being relegated after failing to win a single game under then head coach Tony Hand.

“I worked really hard over the summer and my aim this year is to be even better,” said Davies, who hopes he can do enough this season to impress new head coach Doug Christiansen to be included in the GB squad which will head to Lithuania next April.

“I have always said it will be an honour to play for Great Britain.

“I have played throughout the junior levels and I would obviously be proud to go on and represent the senior team.”
