and another thing...

Saturday, May 5 seems an awful long time ago.

That was the last football match I went to, watching Sheffield Wednesday beat Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 at Hillsborough to clinch promotion from League One to the Championship.

I usually do not mind a break from the football season, but this year it is starting to get to me. It is getting that bad I even started looking at going to a pre-season match – games I try to avoid as they are glorified training sessions in most cases.

What with Euro 2012 and the Olympics, domestic football has been nudged to one side but I am counting down the weeks – not days just yet – until the big kick-off.

August 18 is now my focus, although there was a bonus when I heard the Capital One Cup is being held the week before the league starts.

Some clubs are even staging their first-round games on Saturday, August 11 which makes my countdown look an awful lot better. Less than three weeks and counting.

I guess I can try and cheer on Team GB in the football at the Olympics, although I feel the decision not to choose David Beckham was wrong by Stuart Pearce. It should have been the perfect farewell for one of the game’s true ambassadors.
