Athletics: Sheffield have overall lead in British League

City of Sheffield and Deane AC finished third in the second round of the British League Premier Division at Lee Valley, London on Saturday.

In a close match, the hosts, Shaftsbury Barnet, finished on top with Birchfield edging out Sheffield for second place.

However, the Sheffield team are in the overall lead at the halfway point with Shaftsbury Barnet just a point away.

Joe Dunderdale won the javelin for Sheffield with 70.38 while his brother Haran made it a big family contribution to the Sheffield score with second in the steeplechase (9:18.09) on his league debut.

On the track there was a win for Sheffield’s Imran Rahman in the 100m with Andre Wright third in the B race.

The 400m was a good event for Sheffield with Grant Plenderleith third in 46.65 and Tim Burn second in the B race (47.59).

Matt Bowser added useful points for Sheffield with runner-up spot in the 5,000m (14:27).

Peter Muirhead was third in the long jump (7.28) with Liam Ramsay winning the B event with 7.17.

Ramsay was also third in the 110m hurdles (14.92) ,Rick Yates going a shade faster for second in the B race (14.89).
