Bakers rise to the occasion in top event

THERE were celebrations for riders from the north following success at the Para Home International at Vale View Equestrian Centre in Leicestershire.

The Northern Bakers team won the event just two weeks after the region also won at the Senior Inter Regional dressage competition.

The Northern Bakers team members were Gayle Bloomfield, from Seahouses, Heather Bennett, from Goole, Kathryn Gallagher, from Nottingham and Natasha Adkinson, from Bawtry.

They finished the two days of competition on a score of 413.87. Each rider scored over 66 per cent on both days with Natasha, who was riding her new horse, Undercover 7, gaining 73 per cent on the first day.

Three teams from the Northern Region of British Dressage took part. They were coached by former Paralympics rider Simon Laurens and international Para show-jumper Karen Bostock, from Huddersfield.

The Mitsubishi Motors Grassroots Championships, which had to be cancelled last month along with Badminton Horse Trials, will run alongside Badminton next year.

There had been discussions about possibly re-scheduling the event elsewhere but between them, British Eventing, Badminton and Mitsubishi Motors decided that the championships should run at Badminton as this is the reward that amateur riders are aiming for.
