Atiba Lyons handed debuts to Leslee Smith and Anthony Collins and the Sharks were able to inflict a fifth league loss on the Rocks.

Having trailed by seven in the second quarter at the EIS, Sheffield put together a 12-2 close to lead at the half and put up 31 points in the third as their lead ballooned out to 17 points and – despite a fourth quarter fightback from the Rocks – the home side held on.

Sheffield produced a clinical display on the offensive end as they shot 59 per cent and also converted 21 of 24 free throw attempts, which was crucial in fending off the visitors’ challenge.

Chris Alexander was instrumental for the Sharks with 28 points including 12 of 12 free throws, but team-mate Matthew Don stepped up for his biggest game of the season with nine of 11 shooting without a miss from downtown in a 25-point haul.

Dirk Williams also chipped in with 21 points, while Glasgow’s top scorers were Gareth Murray (20), Kieron Achara (17) and Bo Zeigler (12).

Newcastle Eagles and Bristol Flyers both continued their strong starts to the season, and Manchester Giants also recorded victory last night.
