Leeds United fans blamed for boxing trouble

Trouble began when visiting supporters from Leeds, who were seated in a stand, began launching missiles at a smaller group on the floor.

The group reacted on the floor and more chairs and bottles were launched from the elevated position in retaliation. Security were on hand but could do little to stop the violence.

Reports claimed the main hooliganism seemed to be coming from the Leeds-based fans, who identified themselves by singing songs associated with the Leeds United football team and were there to support Damon Jones who was fighting at the time.

At least two people were cut on their heads and police have confiscated recorded footage from Hatton Boxing TV.

The show was stopped three rounds into Jones’ fight with Simone Lucas and called a no contest. Jones had tried his best to calm down his supporters after being handed the microphone by the Master of Ceremonies.

The main event, featuring hometown fighter Matthew Mallin and Denaby’s Adam Jones, was not allowed to go ahead.
