Quiet man Errol Spence looks to silence Kell Brook and his Bramall Lane backing

Confident: Unbeaten Errol Spence feels he is a better fighter than opponent Kell Brook.

FOR Errol Spence Junior, the man set to face Kell Brook in front of a partisan Sheffield crowd later this year, actions speak louder than words.

The softly-spoken American is aiming to dethrone Brook of his IBF welterweight world title when the two men meet on May 27.

The pair clash at Bramall Lane - home of Brook’s beloved Sheffield United - in what will be Brook’s fourth defence of the belt.

When the pair met earlier this week for a press conference to promote the fight, Spence looked a cool, laidback figure even as he withstood a barrage of verbal hits from Brook and his trainer Dominic Ingle.

Sitting in his sharp blue suit, the 27-year-old’s stance largely remained the same: deeply composed.

For many fighters the prospect of entering foreign soil in front of a baying crowd is enough to fill them with fear.

Not Spence.

“It doesn’t faze me fighting here in front of 30,000 people, all rooting for him,” he said.

“I’ve been over here three times as an amateur.

“But obviously it’s going to be totally different as a professional.

“This is a fight I’ve been wanting and waiting for a long, long time.

“It’s a lifelong dream of mine to finally get my opportunity and I’m coming to get that title.

“I feel like I’m the better fighter.

“I want to take the title from the champion, to become a true champion.”

When quizzed on what physical attributes will enable him to become the first man to defeat Brook at welterweight, Spence finally showed a degree of raw emotion.

Spence, who hails from Texas, has an enviable record in the paid ranks ever since going professional following the London Olympics in 2012.

“I believe in my skills,” he added.

“I hit hard, I’m a big welterweight, I’m strong and I’m fast.

“I’ve sparred with some of the best like (Floyd) Mayweather and (Shawn) Porter.

“I’ve gone toe to toe with all of them and I believe in my ability.”
