Bradford City v Northampton Town: Bradford prepare to honour fire victims

League two: AS Bradford today mourns those who lost their lives 25 years ago in the Valley Parade fire disaster, Peter Taylor has told his players to ensure the home season ends with a win.

Valley Parade will fall silent ahead of kick-off to remember the 56 who died in the disaster on May 11, 1985, when the main stand was destroyed in the blaze.

A bucket collection is also being held to raise funds for the pioneering Burns Unit that was set up in the wake of the fire.

Taylor, who yesterday signed a new 12-month contract to remain as Bradford manager after weeks of talks, admits today will be an emotional affair for everyone at the club.

He said: "The final home game of the season is understandably always a sad day because of the fire.

"In terms of the game, the players have done well in the last four games in terms of results and all I can say to them is keep that going in the final two games.

"I have been pleased with the effort and everyone wants to mark the final home game with a win. That is very important at the end of what has been a disappointing season for the club."

Meanwhile, joint chairman Mark Lawn is urging fans to dig deep to support the Burns Unit at Bradford University.

He said: "The work the Burns Unit has done over the last 25 years is remarkable and, as a club, we are indebted to them.

"We launched an appeal to raise 100,000 for the unit at the start of the season and a good response to the bucket collection may just help us reach our target."

With the 25th anniversary of the fire disaster fast approaching, BBC's Football Focus will take a respectful look back at the tragic events.

Presenter Dan Walker will be joined by former Arsenal full-back Lee Dixon and Bantams legend Stuart McCall at the ground.
