Bresnan and Shahzad named in England's World Cup squad

The Yorkshire pair were chosen after Bresnan's outstanding performance in the Ashes and Shazad's tight bowling in the following Twenty20 series.

Yorkshire's director of professional cricket, Martyn Moxon was delighted with the call ups.

Moxon said: "I think they can both have major impact on the sub-continent. The pitches will be slow and low and they can take advantage of that.

"Tim thrived in not dissimilar conditions during the Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies and Ajmal should be able to get the ball to reverse-swing."

England have been placed in a strong, seven-team group B, alongside former winners and tournament favorites India and second favorites South Africa.

The West Indies, The Netherlands, Bangladesh and Ireland make up the rest of the group.

England open on 22 February in Nagpur against a Netherlands side which pushed Yorkshire close in a one-day game at Headingley last season.

They then meet India in Kolkata on the 27th, before travelling to face Ireland in Bangalore on March 2. The top four in each group will progress to the quarter-finals.

The squad was much as expected with the only major shock being the inclusion of wicket keeper Matt Prior in place of Steve Davis.

Graham Swann is included in the sqaud and expected to be fit despite suffering form a knee injury that will keep him out of action for the next two weeks.

The tournament starts on February 19 and concludes with the final in Mumbai on April 2.
