Bridlington have the edge over rivals

Yorkshire One: Bridlington took over the lead from their rivals with a hard fought 17-12 win in their derby clash at Driffield.

Bridlington went in front with an early try by their stand-off Jamie Muru, which he converted himself, and they increased the lead when their South African full-back Sizwe Zondo touched down

Driffield’s first try came from winger Sam Furbank, leaving Bridlington 12-5 ahead at half-time, and the visitors increased their lead with a try by scrum-half Steve Mellonby.

Driffield salvaged a losing bonus when full-back Lee Birch scored a try which he converted himself, and there was no further score in a tense final quarter which saw Driffield twice pressing the Bridlington line.

Keighley also scored five tries in a 38-7 home win over Huddersfield YMCA to hold fifth place on scoring difference over Pocklington, who crossed 10 times in a 66-19 victory at Castleford.

Pocklington’s tries included two each for winger Dan Pickard, flanker Jack Holbrough and scrum-half Ben Rees. Nick Bennett also scored as well as kicking five conversions and two penalties.

Knottingley moved ahead of Huddersfield YMCA and Castleford with a 20-16 home win over Scarborough.

After turning round 16-11 down in a match in which both teams scored one try, Knottingley clinched it with two penalties and a drop goal by Steve Rockett.

Dinnington came from behind for an 11-6 home win over bottom-side North Ribblesdale.

The visitors took an early lead with two penalties from Will Davidson before Dinnington replied with the only try of the match by No 8 Will Marshall. A penalty and drop goal by full-back Chris Harrison swung the match for Dinnington.
