Hull avenged their highest defeat of the season in the return match at the Ferens Ground with a dominant display over Harrogate.

James Cameron scored two penalties within 30 minutes as Hull spent most of the first half in Harrogate's 22 with plenty of good passing moves.

Both sides also had a player sin-binned after 22 minutes following an altercation in the ruck.

Harrogate – who won 57-11 in the October meeting of the two sides – got the opening try when a lineout was quickly moved inside for Mike Aspinall, who ran between two onrushing Hull players to score between the posts and converted to give Harrogate the lead. But Hull rallied to end the half in front after a lineout 15 metres out was slowly driven to the line and Rob Devonshire touched down with a minute of normal time remaining. Cameron made the conversion to lead 13-7 at the break. Twenty minutes into the second half, Hull increased their lead after more excellent work from the pack enabled Chris Murphy to push 20 metres up the right after a lengthy spell of possession to score Hull's second try.

With 13 minutes left, Devonshire got his second of the day from another close-range lineout drive which was a carbon copy of the first Hull try. Cameron missed the conversion.

Harrogate substitute Aaron Yorke reduced the deficit with seven minutes remaining after a brilliant run from winger Steve Parsons, who beat three players on the flank and ended five metres from the line where Yorke followed up well and forced the ball over.

THE Bees suffered contrasting fortunes in the two 40-minute periods.

For 39 minutes of the first 40, the home side looked comfortably on top but in the second half the visitors clearly held the ascendancy until normal time had expired.

The Bees had all the posession and all the territory in the opening period but could only claim a try from James McBirnie and a penalty from Tom Davidson for all their superiority.

Unfortunately for the home side, a missed tackle in midfield allowed Fylde to break free of the stranglehold and Alex Hurst took the chance to notch a score for the seasiders.

Tom Barlow improved the score but the half-time score of 8-7 did not reflect the home side's dominance.

The second half was a complete reversal as the Fylde forwards took the game by the scruff of the neck and rarely allowed the Bees out of their own half.

Three tries from the visitors in the second period reflected their dominance of proceeddings and the home side never really posed an attacking threat until it was far too late.

Waywell, Akinson and Barlow all crossed for the visitors as the Wagon Lane men just ran out of covering bodies following sustained pressure.

The Bees are still hopeful of pulling themselves clear of the relegation mire but five points from this week's game against Kendal appears an absolute must.

HUDDERSFIELD'S home game against Hull Ionians was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
