Challenge Cup review: Leeds beat Hull, Eagles push Wigan all the way, Wakefield crash out

Leeds coach Brian McClennan took great delight in his side's 48-24 Carnegie Challenge Cup fourth-round win over Hull and warned there is more to come.

Winger Ryan Hall scored four tries as the Super League champions produced a dazzling performance to justify their favourites tag for rugby league's famous knockout competition.

"It was a pretty good performance for a lot of the game," said McClennan. "We're pleased we have the opportunity to go into the draw for the next round.

"It's always a difficult task to come and play Hull here but we rose to the occasion and scored some nice tries.

"We also defended well at times so there are some good positives for the Rhinos.

"We like where we're heading. We're getting better and there is still some good stuff to come yet."

Wigan coach Michael Maguire paid tribute to battling Sheffield but was disappointed his team did not demonstrate the form that has taken them to the top of the Super League in today's 50-34 victory.

Stand-off Sam Tomkins grabbed a second-half hat-trick against the Championship side, as the Super League pace-setters booked their place in the fifth round of the Challenge Cup.

But they had to weather an enthusiastic performance by the Eagles who stunned them by racing into a 10-4 lead at Bramall Lane.

Maguire said: "We were always going to play our first team, we knew it would be a tough game and we made it a tough game by the way we performed, but Sheffield played really well.

"Our boys weren't playing to the standards we've set. We definitely went away from what we have been practising and I'll make sure we jump back on to that quickly or teams can come back and hurt you."

Tony Clubb grabbed two tries as Harlequins shrugged off their Engage Super League woes to dump Wakefield out of the Challenge Cup 23-16.

Clubb's brace came as Quins scored four tries in the first half before holding off a determined Wildcats fightback.
