Charlie Hall looks appealing for stable star Giant Bolster

Trainer David Bridgwater says he is eyeing up a tilt at the £100,000 bet365 Charlie Hall Chase for his stable star, who was involved in a three-way driving finish to this year’s Gold Cup.

The horse has struck up a particularly good rapport with in-form jockey Tom Scudamore, though he could be required to ride Dynaste in the race for his boss David Pipe.

“Everything has gone really well since he has come back in. If he is ready and we are happy, then he will start at Wetherby,” said Bridgwater.

“He has been a wonderful horse and would be for any trainer or owner, let alone a small yard like ours. It’s great.”

His opponents could include Jonjo O’Neill’s highly-regarded Taquin Du Seuil, who will be looking to bounce back from his very disappointing seasonal reappearance at Newton Abbot. The Charlie Hall, or Cheltenham’s Paddy Power Gold in mid-November, are the two options.

The trainer did signify, however, that last season’s Ladbrokes World Hurdle hero, More Of That, is likely to bypass Wetherby’s West Yorkshire Hurdle on Charlie Hall day, though he did confirm that the horse will not go novice chasing this year.

“He has a few little problems and that made our minds up as they try harder over fences, we thought it might be easier to keep him sound over hurdles,” added O’Neill.

“We were thinking of Wetherby but I’d say he might just take a bit longer so it will probably be Newbury or Ascot. He’ll tell us really.”

Grands Crus, a top-class hurdler who won the 2011 Grade One Feltham Novices Chase at Kempton, has been retired by David Pipe after a number of setbacks e and is being retrained in the dressage discipline.

“He owes us absolutely nothing,” said Pipe.

Richard Hughes is champion Flat jockey for a third successive season after it emerged yesterday that his nearest pursuer Ryan Moore will not ride in Britain for the rest of the current campaign due to international commitments.
