Confident Dougie Costello ready to push the button in Commonwealth Cup with Quiet Reflection

The filly, trained at Leyburn by Karl Burke, could not have been more impressive when winning Haydock’s Sandy Lane Stakes last month under the former jump jockey who was recording the biggest win of his fledgling Flat career.

Since her sole defeat in York’s Lowther Stakes last August, Quiet Reflection has won four on the bounce and Costello said: “I had a Ducati 1098 for two years before my daughter came along and my wife made me get rid of it.

“The way Quiet Reflection took off when I pushed the button at Haydock is probably the closest acceleration I’ve ever felt to it (a motorbike) since. She was breathtaking and it wasn’t a fluke. If she turns up in the same form, I can’t see her getting beat.

“She’s very laid-back at home and I think she’s just come to herself this year, plus the step up in trip has helped her. I’m over the moon to have an opportunity to ride a filly like her. It’s what dreams are made of.”

Meanwhile, Queen Kindly will make her own small piece of history as she becomes the first progeny of equine superstar Frankel to contest a race at Royal Ascot.

Richard Fahey’s charge was the first winning filly for the 10-times Group One-winning stallion when she triumphed with the minimum of fuss at Catterick last month.

That victory came over five furlongs but Queen Kindly will be tackling six as she contests the Albany Stakes for Fahey, whose Ribchester won Wednesday’s opener.

However, connections of the Jaber Abdullah-owned filly believe she merits a chance in this kind of company.

Abdullah’s racing manager, Bruce Raymond, said: “We are very hopeful. She beat nothing when she won at Catterick, but she won very well and looked as though this step up to six furlongs would suit her. We think she is up to this kind of race.”

Five sons and daughters of Frankel have run so far this season, with only one having met with with defeat.
