Coventry City v Barnsley: Hill aiming to show McCarthy was wrong

Championship: DEFENDER Matt Hill is looking to resurrect his career with Barnsley after being frozen out by Wolves.

The former Bristol City and Preston North End left-back has joined the Tykes on a one-month loan deal after Scottish international Jay McEveley was ruled out for up to four months with a knee injury.

Hill, 29, has not played first-team football since finishing a loan spell at Queens Park Rangers in April and was excluded from Wolves manager Mick McCarthy's 25-man squad for the Premier League.

"It hasn't worked out for me at Wolves in terms of playing," said Hill. "So I jumped at the chance to come to Barnsley where I hope to do well."

Hill will make his debut in today's game at Coventry City.

Tykes manager Mark Robins said: "I played with Matt when he was just starting out at Bristol City. He is more defensive-minded than Jay but has experience of playing at this level."
