Ali strikes to end Collingham hopes

Aire/Wharfe

Thackley's Mahir Ali pulled off a stunning all-round performance that virtually ended any hopes Collingham had of taking the title.

He hit an unbeaten 66 in his side's 130-8, of which Steve Booth took 5-53. Ali, then tore apart the visiting batting. His nine-over spell included five maidens and produced figures of 8-13 as Collingham were bundled out for 34.

That allowed Green Lane to bounce back to third place after beating Otley by six wickets with Ishtikhar Hussain returning 3-20 off 15 overs and Michael Abbott and Joe Pleasance each contributing 47 to their 188-4 total.

But they remain 20 points behind leaders Burley, who overcame Guiseley with three wickets to spare, Phil Truswell (46) and Charlie Davy (41) were top scorers in their 184-7.

The only team with a realistic hope of taking the trophy off Burley is Beckwithshaw, who kept within 11 points of their rivals by winning a run race against Rawdon. Stuart Hudson (5-26) and Ben Quick (4-33) restricted the visitors to 188, of which Jamie Pickering scored 92.

But a reduction of overs put the pressure on and they were grateful for the experience of John Ingles (54) and Phil Critchley (71) as they achieved their target of nine an over.

Adel's hopes of picking up points in their bid to get out of the bottom two were thwarted initially by Kirkstall's Joe Gibson, who hit an unbeaten 53, and then by the weather that saw the game abandoned.

The top three promotion hopefuls in Division Two all had to settle for a point in abandoned games, giving Olicanian the opportunity to reduce the gap which they did with a convincing win over Tong Park Esholt. Bernard Hughes (4-43) and Matthew House (4-21) kept the home side to 104 and Ed Brown (46) led the successful run chase.

Olicanian are just one point behind third-placed Harden and only five behind Follifoot in second. Leaders Bilton will need a catastrophe to miss out and showed no sign of it as Jarred Leggett (69no) and Darren Blenkiron (94) helped them to 188-1 against Follifoot before the rain intervened.

Harden were also frustrated, the weather stopping play with Silsden on 72-8 in reply to their 163-5 in which Anthony Bairstow scored 66.
