All-rounder Khiljee shines for Shelley

ANDREW Smith and captain Matthew Wood lifted Kirkburton above opponents Golcar into third place after victory by 102 runs at Riley Lane.

Smith, who spent the winter in New Zealand, joined Wood in an opening partnership of 186 towards Kirkburton’s impressive 300-5. Smith made 85 and Wood’s 84 was his ninth half-century of the season. There was also a useful third-wicket stand of 90 from Greg Buckley and Ryan Robinson.

Alex Morris and Joe Sayers had an opening partnership of 135 for leaders Hoylandswaine, who won by nine wickets at Skelmanthorpe. Kristian Whittaker made a valiant 70 for the losers, who were bowled out for 154, Bandula Don taking 4-36 in his 12 overs of medium pace. Morris then hit 75 and Sayers 62, Hoylandswaine reaching their objective in just 17 overs.

Second-placed Elland bounced back from defeat against Delph & Dobcross with a nine-wicket trouncing of Clayton West. Lorenzo Ingram, Ibrar Younas and Chris Goulden took three wickets each as West were bowled out for 119. Then Niall Lockley struck an undefeated 61 and Paul Winrow supported with 48.

Relegation-threatened Marsden recorded only their second league win of the campaign in overcoming hosts Shepley by 50 runs. Former Batley batsman Tauseeq Raza ponted the way with 68 for Marsden and Chris Kilner played his part with 45 and four wickets.

All-rounder Bilal Khiljee took 71 runs off Delph & Dobcross after his 23 overs brought him 4-76 as Shelley won by 30 runs. Khiljee had a second-wicket partnership of 107 with Nick Sharp, who contributed 65.

Rain brought a premature end to Honley’s game against Scholes and Slaithwaite’s encounter with Hall Bower. Honley amassed 257-3 with Richard Jakeman and Simon Kelly reaching 103 for the first wicket. Jakeman had 14 boundaries in his 94, while Kelly made 70, including 10 fours and a six. There was also an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 77 between Michael Fraine and Danny Howard.

Scholes reached 95-2 in 29 overs, with 1,000-plus run scorer Wasim Jaffer undefeated on 36.

Record-breakers ease Thornes drop fears

WAKEFIELD Thornes eased their Premier Division relegation worries with a record 320-run opening partnership in 43.4 overs between Richard Foster and Nadeera Nawela in a high-scoring game at Townville that produced 679 runs.

Foster hammered 174 and Sri Lankan Nawela 164 as Thornes racked up the top-flight’s highest score this season of 378-3.

Tim Walton, Jonathan Booth and Wade Lezar struck half-centuries in Townville’s reply of 301.

Unbeaten leaders Wrenthorpe crushed Northowram Fields, who were sent reeling from 66-1 to 132 all out by David Paynter (6-31).

Wrenthorpe knocked off the runs in just 18 overs, with captain Gary Fellows hitting an unbeaten 73 off 50 balls in an opening century stand with Dan Wood (34).

Wrenthorpe remain six points clear of New Farnley, who beat Batley by 74 runs

Methley kept alive their title hopes with a 29-run win against Carlton.

Vele Dukoski (4-23) and Nick Connolly (3-37) toppled Carlton for 205, replying to Methley’s 234-5 that included 69 by Hamid Khan.

Indian opener Connor Williams (111) guided Birstall to 249-9 against Mirfield Parish Cavaliers, whose reply fell short on 229-8, despite 48 by Michael Padgett and 47 from Neil Parkinson.

Derrick Hammill (6-36) and Tom Suggitt (45) gave Hunslet Nelson the edge at Altofts whose 16-run defeat was tough on Jordan Sleightholme (49) and all-rounder Simon Steel (35 and 4-58).

Oulton and Ossett maintained their Division One promotion challenges.

Jonathan Gardiner hit 66 and claimed 4-71 as former Wetherby League champions Oulton beat Wakefield Thornes by 15 runs.

Shoaib Latif hammered 125 off 132 balls and snapped up 4-17 in Ossett’s 137-run win against Hopton Mills.

Wakefield St Michael’s promotion hopes were dented by a 60-run defeat at Scholes.

Buttershaw St Paul’s lost by six wickets at East Ardsley.

Lilley hat-trick in showdown battle

James Lilley produced a five-wicket spell, including a hat-trick, as Beckwithshaw beat Collingham and replaced them at the top of the table.

John Swain (47) and Matthew Fielding (39) gave Collingham a solid platform but Lilley’s left-arm swing restricted them to 174.

Beckwithshaw lost two quick wickets but Yasar Ali (64no) and Ben Quick (43) steadied things with a stand of 96 and Ali and Simon Barker (27no) saw them to a fourth successive win.

Third-placed Steeton faltered for the second week in a row, going down at home to Otley, openers Sam Smith (67no) and Jonathan Hughes (85) putting on 141 as the visitors chased down 179 with 12 overs to spare.

Nick Brook (40), brother David (51) and Charlie Davy (46) starred in Burley’s 200-9 and with Daniel Meredith picking up 4-53, fourth-placed Follifoot were only able to hang on for two points.

Stuart Howie (47) and Bryan Hall (36) helped Adel to 165 and even though Thackley slumped to 88-5 after Majid Khan (44) was out, Dylan Budge (28) and Bradley Goodaire (32no) put them back on track to victory.

Adel are 26 points from safety and Ben Rhydding look favourites to join them in the drop after losing to third from bottom Guiseley.

Jason Wright (84) starred in Ben Rhydding’s 200 in which Chris Wain took 6-42, before Alex Bell (81) and Dave Pennett (43no) clinched the win.

Chris Dawson (80) top scored in Bilton’s 239 and Kirkstall were left four runs short of victory with one wicket left at the close.

James Ward hit an unbeaten century in Pool’s 191 with Michael Slater taking 5-45, then Ward (3-15) and fellow spinner Richard Henry (3-32) shot Green Lane out for 122.

That put Pool within a point of Division Two leaders Rawdon, who took just four points against Bardsey despite Tony Gilks’s 98.

Harden are two points further back after their draw with Knaresborough, James Seymour (109), James Roper (50no) and Andrew Bailey (5-52) the pick.

Upper Wharfedale beat Calverley by 219 runs with Andrew Foulds making 115.
