Baildon throw the title race wide open

Champions Baildon threw the Division One title race wide open when they defeated leaders Undercliffe by two wickets on a dramatic day which saw all of the top three teams beaten.

Undercliffe's lead has been cut to two points and just 20 points covers the top six teams.

Undercliffe were dismissed for 168 as Ian Philliskirk (6-49) posed problems, but they must have fancied their chance of winning when Baildon were 59-6, but Tom Smallwood (41) led a revival which enabled his team to win by two wickets.

Second-placed Pudsey St Lawrence also lost by two wickets against Bradford & Bingley who moved up to third on the strength of their win.

Sri Lankan Naveed Gharni took 4-67 with his leg spin as St Lawrence were restricted to 234-7 and followed up with 76 as his side eased home with two balls to spare.

Pudsey Congs suffered their second-successive defeat as they went down by 85 runs at Cleckheaton. Ian Nicholson (75), Mally Nicholson (58no) and Marcus Walmsley (54) helped Cleckheaton make 241-7 before bowling out Congs for 156.

The bottom three lost as well. Yeadon were on the receiving end of the day's highest score of 327-4 as they went down by 125 runs at East Bierley.

The match featured two fine centuries. Former Yorkshire player Gavin Hamilton made 131 for Bierley and Sri Lankan Tharanga De Silva hit 103 for Yeadon.

Bankfoot are searching for their first win. Their weakened line-up was no match for Woodlands as they suffered a six-wicket defeat. Chris Brice (4-19) and Sarfraz Ahmed (4-39) bowled out Bankfoot for 128.

Saltaire remain second from the bottom after a 146-run loss to Gomersal. They were dismissed for 106 with Rob Burton taking 5-47. Andy Gorrod continued his fine form for Gomersal with 58 as he and Adam Greenwood (66no) guided their side to 252-5.

There was also an interesting twist to the Division Two title race with second-placed Lightcliffe inflicting a second defeat of the season on leaders Hanging Heaton. Former Yorkshire player Chris Taylor made 92, Josh Wheatley (58) and Matt Taylor (34) as Lightcliffe made 242-6 before dismissing Hanging Heaton for 198.
