Barkisland spinning along to title assault

BARKISLAND boosted their title prospects with a 103-run victory over Shepley, who lost the leadership to Hoylandswaine.

Third-placed Barkisland made it five successive wins, Alex Scholefield striking a fine 68 in their 243-8. Spinners Chris Williams (5-28) and Matthew Steers (3-19) helped dismiss Shepley for 140.

Hoylandswaine defeated visitors Honley by nine wickets. Spinner Richard Wilkinson grabbed six wickets as Honley were dismissed for 236 in 49.4 overs, Max Joice making 71.

Former Baildon batsman Gharib Nawaz and Sarjinder Pal Singh had an unbroken second-wicket partnership of 113 and Hoylandswaine won in the 40th over, Nawaz making 130, including 13 fours and nine sixes, and Sarjinder 79.

Scholes dropped into fourth after Delph & Dobcross crushed them by 164 runs. Delph made 308-8 in their 50 overs, Greg Buckley and Arron Lilley making scores in the 80s. Craig Fletcher took 5-41 for Delph.

Andy Alsop’s medium pace earned him a 5-16 return from 10 overs in Golcar’s 156-run victory at Slaithwaite, who were bowled out for 81 in 20.2 overs. Jake Lockwood and Jack Hargreaves struck half-centuries for Golcar.

Pace bowler Usran Malvi claimed 8-31 from 11 overs as Kirkburton thrashed Meltham by 151 runs. Andy Smith, Ibrar Latif and Iqbal Khad all made half-centuries for Kirkburton.

Bottom club Holmfirth had three half-century makers in Sam Denton, Kasir Maroof and Hardeep Singh but lost by four wickets at Elland. Jack Hendy and Wayne Swift took Elland to victory in 48.3 overs after Hahid Rehman had made 73.

James Crossland’s 5-37 helped Skelmanthorpe to an eight-wicket triumph at Shelley.
