Canterbury latest: Yorkshire strike before rain ends play early

HEAVY rain has prevented any further play on the third day of Yorkshire’s County Championship match against Kent in Canterbury.

Overnight rain prevented a start until noon, while further rain arrived at 12.40pm with Kent on 350-9, a first innings lead of 103.

And with heavy rain continuing to fall, and with more forecast for this evening and tonight, it is doubtful whether there will be much, if any, cricket on the final day of this encounter.

Yorkshire took three wickets this morning after Kent resumed on 316-6.

In ideal bowling conditions, with thick cloud cover and a stiff wind blowing, Yorkshire claimed those wickets within the space of seven balls.

Tim Bresnan had James Tredwell caught at second slip by Phil Jaques for 37, ending a seventh-wicket stand of 98 with Brendan Nash in 34 overs.

With his next delivery, Bresnan had Matt Coles caught behind before Adil Rashid bowled Mark Davies for a duck.

Nash is unbeaten on 132 after beginning day three on 114.
