Carberry and Taylor imperious in another ODI rout

Michael Carberry and James Taylor both struck centuries as England Lions claimed another crushing win over Bangladesh A in the second unofficial one-day international at Taunton.

Opener Carberry struck 18 fours and four sixes in his 132-ball 146 while Taylor finished unbeaten on 102, a knock which included seven fours and four sixes, as England Lions ran up a daunting 367-3 after winning the toss and opting to bat.

Somerset batsman-wicketkeeper Jos Buttler also added a quickfire 47 off 23 balls on home soil while Ben Stokes contributed an unbeaten 23 off nine deliveries as the Lions, who scored 353 in winning the opening match by 151 runs in Bristol on Tuesday, finished with a flourish.

That huge total proved well beyond Bangladesh A once again as they were bowled out for 176 with more than five overs remaining. Chris Jordan was easily the pick of the Lions’ attack with 4-38 off his 10 overs while Carberry wrapped things up in his only over as he bowled last man Al-Amin Hossain with his fourth ball.

The Lions will attempt to complete a series whitewash in the third and final match, which takes place at Taunton tomorrow.

Third-placed Middlesex found things far from easy against Derbyshire at Derby in the LV= County Championship Division One.

Middlesex conceded a first-innings deficit of 136 after being bowled out for 249 in the morning session on day three but then hit back with the ball as they dismissed Derbyshire for 160 in their second knock, Ollie Rayner taking 5-67.

That left Middlesex a victory target of 297 but they found themselves in some trouble on 25-2 at the close, although nightwatchman Steven Finn – available for his county after being released from England duty – was one of the men out.

Another fast bowler deemed surplus to requirements by England this week, Chris Tremlett, enjoyed an excellent day at Chester-le-Street but despite his efforts Durham held the upper hand after day one against Surrey.

Tremlett took all five Durham wickets to fall, including that of Scott Borthwick for a career-best 135 and Will Smith for 87, but the home side still closed on a healthy 309-5.

Nick Compton celebrated his new three-year contract with Somerset by scoring an unbeaten 83 as they closed on 133-2 in their second innings against Warwickshire and a lead of 66 heading into the final day.
