Centurion Longhurst blasts Darfield as Whitley Hall then secure double

Whitley Hall set themselves up for their clash with Wrenthorpe in the Champions of Champions Final the following day with a blistering performance in their last league match of the season, when they punished the Darfield bowling for 350-2.

Openers Neil Longhurst and Jaco Castle did the damage, Longhurst blasting an unbeaten 163, with 27 boundaries, and Castle slamming with 20 boundaries, the pair taking Whitley to 257 before being parted. The hosts then had Darfield back in the pavilion for 133, Tom Fletcher grabbing 5-34.

Yesterday, Whitley Hall then completed the second leg of a tremendous Yorkshire Council double when they beat Central Yorkshire League side Wrenthorpe in the final.

Batting first, Whitley closed on 204-9, Alex Welsh and Chris Sidall both with 37, Jim Tasker 33, Neil Longhurst 32. Glover took 3-31.

Wrenthorpe then fell for 186, late batsman Parker hitting 51, the wickets again well-shared, Longhurst claiming 3-14 and the man of the match award, with South African Jaco Castle taking 2-30.

With the Premier Division championship safely in their pockets, Treeton didn’t ease up in their final match, answering Wickersley’s 197-9 with 201-6.

A superb knock of 101 from Danny Kemp leading the way. The only batsmen to stay for long in the Wickersley innings were Shaaiq Choudhry (44) and Reece Shutt (40), with Greg Norton claiming 4-51.

Barnsley ended their season in style, opener Thomas Goldsby-West cracking 83 of their 207-6, junior Jordan Luke Bethel adding 45, then sending back Aston Hall for 125, Ali Jahangir bagging 6-28.

Wath openers James Barnard, (69) and Matt Higgins (55) gave their side a fine start, 134-1, to close with 217-8, too many for hosts Coal Aston, who were dismissed for 176 with three wickets each for Mike De Vrye and Mark Barlow.
