Choudhry spins in again for Undercliffe

ALL-ROUNDER Shafiq Choudhry is proving to be a key addition to the Undercliffe side who lead Division One by five points at the halfway stage of the season after a 126-run win over Yeadon.

He top scored with 84 as Undercliffe recovered from a slow start to make 243-5 with Nawaz Sardar (60) and Ashley Metcalfe (42no) also contributing valuable runs from the middle order.

Choudhry followed up by taking 7-18 with his left- arm spin as Yeadon were dismissed for 117.

Baildon captain Ian Philliskirk went one better than Choudhry. He took 8-42 as the champions beat Bankfoot by five wickets.

Bankfoot, despite good scores from Andrew Duckworth (81) and Greg Fotheringham (51) were dismissed for 217. Baildon eased to their target with Jonny Reynolds (75), Simon Webb (62), and Shane Gadsdon (31), leading the way.

There was a thrilling game at Pudsey Congs where James Davies hit a six from the fourth ball of the final over to give Bradford & Bingley a three-wicket win.

Davies finished 31not out but it was opener Simon Davies who masterminded the successful pursuit of Congs' score of 293-6 with 128. Mark Gill top scored with 93 for Congs and Adam Patel made 78.

Congs' second defeat of the season enabled neighbours Pudsey St Lawrence to regain second place with a 59-run win at Cleckheaton.

Mark Robertshaw made the day's highest individual score of 146 as St Lawrence reached 340-8. Alex Stead (78) shared an opening stand of 160 with Robertshaw.

Young off-spinner Edward Walmsley took 5-58 for Cleckheaton and St Lawrence spinner Steve Watts replied with 5-55 as the home side were restricted to 245-9. Captain John Wood hit a rapid 72.

Seven days after relinquishing the Scotland captaincy, Gavin Hamilton made 123 as East Bierley defeated Farsley by eight runs and Richard Gould made an unbeaten 112 – his second successive century – but could not spare Gomersal from a 63-run defeat at Woodlands.

Chris Brice was the key for Woodlands making 84 in a total of 263-6 and taking 3-67 as Gomersal were held at 200-7.
