Cricket latest: Shahzad and Sidebottom give Yorkshire lead of 199 runs

AJMAL SHAHZAD and Ryan Sidebottom recorded the eighth-highest 10th-wicket stand in Yorkshire’s history to earn their side a first innings lead of 199 against Worcestershire at Scarborough.

Shahzad (70) and Sidebottom (28 not out) added 109 in 24 overs as Yorkshire made 367 in reply to Worcestershire’s 168.

After resuming on 235-6 at lunch, Yorkshire lost a wicket to the third ball after the break when Tim Bresnan played-on to Gareth Andrew for 41.

Bresnan added 92 for the seventh-wicket with Gary Ballance, who progressed to a splendid half-century from 127 balls with four fours.

Ballance fell to the first delivery with the second new ball, lbw to Alan Richardson for 51 to leave Yorkshire 254-8.

Yorkshire slipped to 258-9 when Adil Rashid inexplicably shouldered arms to Jack Shantry and was lbw for 14.

But some lusty hitting from Shahzad, allied to some obdurate support from Sidebottom, frustrated a visiting side who rapidly ran out of ideas.
