Earlier, Yorkshire wrapped up the Hampshire first innings after 85 minutes’ play.

After resuming on 189-6, the visitors were dimissed for 232 beneath cloudy skies.

Ryan Sidebottom struck in the day’s fourth over when he had Cork caught at cover by Joe Root for 11.

Hampshire fell to 216-8 in the 72nd over of their innings when Sean Ervine was lbw to Tim Bresnan’s second ball from the Kirkstall Lane end, the batsman perishing for 23.

Sidebottom reduced Hampshire to 217-9 in the next over when he had Danny Briggs lbw for a duck from a splendid yorker.

And Ajmal Shahzad claimed his fifth wicket of the innings when he had Kabir Ali caught at third man by Steve Patterson for 16, David Griffiths ending unbeaten on six.

Shahzad finished with 5-65 from 21.3 overs, while Sidebottom claimed 3-45 from 22 overs.
