Denton knock soon eclipsed by Wood

Drakes Huddersfield

FORMER Yorkshire batsman Matthew Wood mustered 27 boundaries on his way to a record-breaking 187 for Kirkburton.

The left-hander went one run better than Tom Denton, who the previous week hit 186 only to have the league's highest individual total of the season taken away from him by Wood's tremendous effort.

With Charlie Roebuck and Richard Kettlewell also contributing, Kirkburton were dominant against Golcar, reaching 341-5 but being unable to claim the opposition's final wicket.

Wicketkeeper Richard Jakeman showed as much quality at the crease as he usually does with the gloves, hitting an unbeaten 68 as Honley romped to a nine-wicket win at Hoylandswaine.

Simon Kelly also chipped in with a handy contribution after Harlon Haye's best bowling performance of the season combined with Richie Howarth's three wickets to keep Hoylandswaine in check at 179 all out.

Huddersfield Town footballer Denton's brilliant month continued at Broad Oak, even though the Shepley batsman failed to record a century for the first time in three weeks.

His final tally of 79 was supported by knocks from Sarjinder-Pal Singh and Tim Rees as Shepley eventually finished 98 runs better than their hosts.

Safraz Ahmed's best knock for six weeks was not enough to stop Skelmanthorpe falling victim to Delph and Dobcross. Ahmed, Wasim Jaffer and James Dollive each did well but Irfan Zahoor responded with a century as Delph cantered home with eight wickets to spare.

Scholes' batsmen were also in fine form, Ibrar Latif hitting 19 fours and five sixes, while Ken Brook was not far behind with 11 fours and two sixes. Ben Wells did his best for Barkisland but his side never looked like overturning Scholes' tally.

Bjorn Taylor got his eye in at Hemplow, helping Slaithwaite to a seven-wicket victory against Marsden that took just 31 overs to complete.

Lee Baxter and Greg Buckley helped Elland claim a seven-wicket win at Holmfirth and in the Conference Nicky Lawrence denied Kexborough at the death just as they looked set to win at Micklehurst.
