Fellows again top of run-scoring charts

A CENTURY by Majid Majeed was in vain for Scholes, who were relegated for the second successive season when they failed to collect maximum points against fellow Division One strugglers East Leeds on the final day.

Majeed (125) and Matthew Barnes (66no) put on 115 to guide Scholes to 275-5 but East Leeds avoided relegation when James Watling (74no) helped them recover from 152-7 to finish on 211-8 in reply.

Woodkirk escaped the drop when Ashish Rana (42), David Jarvis (5-25) and Patrick Hinchcliffe (3-34) led them to a 16-run win against relegated Caribbean.

Division One champions Hunslet Nelson achieved their 19th league win by beating Ossett, who were routed for 105 by Sohail Raz (4-19), Will Stiff (3-14) and Glen Thompson (3-33).

Batley were relegated from the Premier Division after losing by three wickets to Wakefield Thornes. Batley finished four points adrift of third bottom Altofts, whose game at champions Wrenthorpe was abandoned because of a waterlogged pitch.

Ossett made sure they retained their top-flight place by beating Birstall. Chris Hosley (70no) guided Ossett to a six-wicket win after Jonathan Rudge (5-45) had limited Birstall to 130-9 in a 37-over match.

Zafar Khan led Birstall's scoring by hitting four sixes in an excellent 61 off 74 balls.

Liam Booth (40) and David Bolt (31) steered relegated Liversedge to a three-wicket win at Wakefield SM, who were pegged to 161 by Simon Kay (4-42) and Simon Purdy (3-54). St Michael's defeat was hard on Richard Atkinson (66) and all-rounder Jake Thorne (48 and 5-63).

New Farnley clinched second place by inflicting Northowram Fields' fifth straight defeat.

Ian Fisher (4-15) and David McCallum (3-25) toppled Northowram for 108 and Sam Lavery (42no) and Joe Suggitt (30no) shared an unbroken fifth-wicket partnership as Farnley knocked off the runs.

Hamid Khan (53) and John Rickers (5-41) were Methley's match-winners against Townville. Methley's Sri Lankan all-rounder Hemantha Alles was the Premier Division's leading wicket-taker this season with 52.

Wrenthorpe captain Gary Fellows was the leading scorer for the second successive year with 1,226 league runs.
