Goddard smashes Bees into early exit

Priestley Cup: East Bierley captain Lee Goddard hammered a century off just 38 balls as his side defeated Priestley Cup holders Bradford & Bingley by 267 runs.Goddard’s innings contained ten sixes and five fours and followed a fine 116 from Gavin Hamilton and 79 by Ismail Dawood as his side made a mammoth 408-6 before dismissing Bradford & Bingley for 141 with Goddard taking 4-10.Cleckheaton captain John Wood made 90 and took 4-35 as his side reached the semi-finals with a 10-run win over Woodlands.Manningham Mills pulled off the surprise of the day as they beat Pudsey Congs by 29 runs. Gulsheraz Ahmed (68) helped them make 160. Zeeshan Qasim took 3-24 as they dismissed Congs for 131. Pudsey St Lawrence bowled out Division Two side Idle for 54 with Matthew Lumb taking 6-20 and David Stiff (4-29) to set up a 10-wicket win

Yorkshire Premier (Sunday): Rotherham Town climbed to the top of the table yesterday, extending their winning league run to nine matches with a 115-run victory over Sheffield Collegiate.

With previous leaders York having their game at Hull called off on Saturday, Rotherham took full advantage. Gerhardus Rudolph, Nathan Smith and Ben Sanderson all hit half centuries, Guy and Rudolph adding 108 for the second wicket. Spinners Gurman Randhawa and Ollie Jackson then took four wickets each as Collegiate were dismissed for 158 in 44.5 overs.

Holders York reached the semi-finals of the League Knockout Cup with a seven-wicket win over Barnsley at Clifton Park and will play the winners of the tie between Yorkshire Academy and Hull, which was rained off yesterday.

Batting first, Barnsley were bowled out for 217 in 48.2 overs, Simon Widdup and Jason Booth having an opening stand of 96 and Richard Wilkinson and Matthew Wilkinson adding 91 for the sixth wicket. Widdup and Richard Wilkinson made half-centuries.

York reached their target in the 47th over, Duncan Snell hoisting a mighty six to strike the winning runs and reach his century. Snell, who hit 13 fours and two sixes, had an opening stand of 119 with Liam McKendry who made 55.

Romida Sykes Cup: Louis Aspeling and Paul Davis ensured Clayton West’s giant-killing cup exploits came to an end as holders Skelmanthorpe topped 300 runs and marched into the semi-finals yesterday.

Frank Platt Championship side West had knocked out Premiership opponents Honley and Barkisland in the opening two rounds but they met their match, losing by 108 runs. Aspeling batted throughout for 106 and although Australian Davis was dropped three times he made 101 off 48 balls.

Delph & Dobcross, last year’s beaten finalists, lost by 27 runs at Golcar, while a century by Tim Rees saw Shepley through in a 110-run victory at Hoylandswaine.

Cedar Court Conference side Cawthorne humbled Premiership opponents Marsden, winning by 124 runs. Ben Simpson hit a half-century before Marsden were hustled out for 70.

Waddilove Cup: Knaresborough’s David Girling (5-22) and Jonathan Tattersall (3-8) ripped through Division One strugglers Collingham despite the gutsy resistance of opener John Swain (45), who scored more than half their runs.

Stuart Carey (41) and Richard Geary (42no) saw the second division side to a nine-wicket victory and they will now meet cup holders Burley who eased to a six-wicket win over Hall Park.

There was more giant-killing as Jonathan Best, Shane McNamara and Mark Taylor each picked up three cheap wickets to restrict Otley to 177 and Andrew Luxton (52) and Adam Hardwick (60no) steered Steeton to victory.

Johnny Johnson (68no) helped Addingham overcome Alwoodley for the second day in a row to fly the flag for Division Three in the quarter finals.

Calum Braddock (77no) helped Pool to 228-5 but John Inglis (71) gave Beckwithshaw a solid start and Rob Ellis (58no) and Mike Stanford (57no) finished the job.

Heavy Woollen Cup: Slaithwaite visit Shepley in the Heavy Woollen Cup semi-finals on July 3 after beating Yeadon by 62 runs.

Wajid Hussain (79), Abdul Wahid (70no) and Bjorn Taylor (54) steered Slaithwaite to 266-5.

Ibrar Younas bagged 4-32 and Hussain 3-38 as Yeadon were toppled for 204 in reply.

Gomersal host Hanging Heaton in the other semi-final.
