Hairs has smashing time in huge victory

SCOTLAND batsman Oliver Hairs and medium pace bowler Nick Kay spearheaded reigning champions and current leaders York to a 203-run victory over Appleby Frodingham at Clifton Park.

‘Head man’ Hairs smashed 11 fours and four sixes in amassing 104 and he enjoyed a second wicket partnership of 159 with Duncan Snell, who made 58. Alex Collins added 72 as York totalled 300-6 in their 55 overs. The visitors were hustled out for just 97 in 29.1 overs, Kay taking 5-33 in eight overs and Tom Pringle 3-15 in 7.1 overs.

Yorkshire Academy registered their first win of the campaign, defeating Driffield Town by 116 runs. Opener George Ross made 78 and 17-year-old Edward Wilson hit 65 on his debut. Driffield, who have lost all four league matches since an opening day tie with York, were ousted for 98.

Scarborough returned to winning ways at Sheffield United where the home side were 28 runs short with their last pair at the wicket at the close. Middle order batsman Kunwar Bansil was out one run short of his 50 for Scarborough, while Simon Tennant was their most effective bowler with 4-28.

Doncaster Town are still without a league win after going down by nine wickets at unbeaten Cleethorpes.

Chasing Doncaster’s 194-9, the home side were never in trouble with Bill Kirby (102no) and Rory Osmond (83) sharing an opening partnership of 178..

Barnsley were six-wicket winners against Castleford at Shaw Lane. Spinner Richard Wilkinson grabbed 6-44 in his 23 overs as Castleford could muster only 140-8 in 55 overs.

Stuart Guy (115) and Gerhardus Rudolph (77) shared a second-wicket stand worth 124 for Rotherham Town who won by 89 runs at Harrogate. Hull, meanwhile, followed successive wins over Scarborough and Appleby Frodingham with a 70-run defeat at Sheffield Collegiate.
