Indian star Jaffer in the runs again

Drakes Huddersfield

WASIM Jaffer goes from strength to strength for Skelmanthorpe, who pulled off a massive coup by capturing the Indian Test batsman's services this summer.

Mumbai-born Jaffer set an all-time season's best batting average of 121.79 in 2005 during one of his two spells with Scholes. Now the man who piled up nearly 2,000 runs in 31 Tests between 2000 and 2008 has already made six centuries in all competitions for Skelmanthorpe, his latest arriving in a 124-run victory over Broad Oak on Saturday.

Danny Howard went for 27 but then fellow opener Simon Kelly made his way to an unbeaten century containing 14 fours and a six and Michael Fraine hit a half-century as the pair defied all attempts to remove them.

Hoylandswaine suffered only their second defeat of the season, at Delph & Dobcross for whom Kyle Hogg (111) and Faisal Butt (79) had an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 174. Hoylandswaine captain Alex Morris hit seven fours and seven sixes in an undefeated 98 but his side lost by seven wickets.
