Iyer proves top ally for batting star King

YORK SENIOR

Dunnington's former West Indies star Collis King hit his fourth century of the season and his second three- figure score in six days when he made an unbeaten 128 to help his side gain an advantage draw at Fenner.

Dunnington had slipped to 87-5 thanks to the efforts of Steve Sargeant (3-44) and Jason Hellwig (3-72). King then found an ally in Adam Iyer, who made 36 as the pair put on 105 for the sixth wicket. King's innings of 117 balls saw him hit 15 fours and four sixes in a 128-minute stay which boosted Dunnington's total to 239-7.

When Fenner responded, Sergeant made 49, Ross Davy 38 and Peter Shally 29 but Iyer again influenced the game as his 4-63 off 18 overs ensured that the home innings never gained sufficient impetus and the game was drawn at 193-7.

Clifton Alliance maintained their position as league leaders when they defeated Studley Royal by seven wickets at Galphay Road. Rob Mackle's 44 seemed to have set Studley en route to a decent total but a devastating three-over spell by Reece Crowe in which he claimed 4-5, restricted the Royals to 156-9. Clifton's reply was a dual effort in which Sean Holmes made 67 not out and Adam Slater 60.

Woodhouse Grange were 3-2 against Beverley but Chris Bilton chose an opportune moment to log his first Premier Division half-century and No 9 Tom Quinn made 31 as they reached 137. Town's John Fisher then blasted his way to 70 with four sixes and eight fours. Quinn made the rest of the batsmen struggle but his 5-50 could not prevent a three-wicket win for Beverley.

There were half-centuries for home batsmen Andy Tute (60) and Scott Nicholls (74), supplemented by 27 from Andy Green as Acomb made 221-7 against Easingwold. Jon Marwood took 3-42 for the visitors and then followed with 40. Steve Piercy fell for 29 but Martin Piercy then hit an unbeaten 65 and Paul Skilbeck 57 as Easingwold gained a seven-wicket win.

Stamford Bridge accelerated their innings when they entertained Thirsk and made 249-8 thanks to an unbeaten 91 by Phil Hill and 49 from Dave Bradshaw.

Martin Veysey then claimed 3-18 and Ollie Pimlott 3-25 but Mark Cook's 75 not out in conjunction with 45 from Des Wyrill enabled the bottom club to emerge with a draw at 178-7.

Sessay lost ground on the leading trio when they had to be content with a losing draw at home to Goole Town.

In Division One, the York duo of Dave Simpson and James Wackett carried on where they left off a week earlier when they followed their unbeaten 169 partnership with a second-wicket stand of 190 in a nine-wicket win over bottom club Ripon. The latter had posted a score of 197-6 with Tom Leeming making 69, Howard Wooding 40 and Peter Squires 39.
