Khan strikes to see Methley remain top

HAMID Khan hammered an unbeaten 125 off 114 balls as Premier Division leaders Methley maintained their unbeaten league record by beating winless bottom team Ossett.

John Rickers (4-40) and Chris Leaf (3-41) limited Ossett to 203, which featured an unbeaten 95 by Michael Edwards.

In reply, Khan shared an opening 169-run stand with Nick Connolly (56) as Methley coasted to a seven-wicket victory in 37.2 overs.

Methley are five points ahead of champions Wrenthorpe who slipped to their first league defeat when they lost by two runs at Wakefield Thornes.

Openers Richard Foster (50) and Nathan Glynn (42) put on 105 as Thornes posted 200-5, but a last wicket partnership of 25 between Joe Ellis and Tom Glover was in vain for Wrenthorpe who succumbed when Ellis was stumped off the final ball.

Third-placed New Farnley scraped a six-run win against Altofts., who were sent reeling from 125-4 to 142 all out by Ian Fisher (4-31) and Dan Busfield (4-52).

Tommy Roy (80) and Will Stickler (49) shared a century stand and Irfan Amjad hit an unbeaten half century as last season’s Division One champions Hunslet Nelson climbed to fourth place with a six-wicket victory at Townville.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers, the other promoted side, won by five wickets at Northowram Fields, who were routed for 136 by Daniel Hope (3-40), Michael Padgett (3-24), Reece Drake (2-32) and Graeme Winn (2-38).

Milan Gunarathne (54no) and David Blakeley (51) put on 81 for the fourth wicket as Cavaliers knocked off the runs.

Birstall continued their revival by beating Wakefield St Michael’s by three wickets.

Carlton retained top spot in Division One with a 125-run win at East Leeds, who have not collected a point so far this season.

Liam Morris claimed 4-25 as East Leeds were toppled for 185, replying to Carlton’s 310-7 that included an opening 139-run partnership between Phil Page (96) and Steve Cooper (41). Neil Roberts (75) and Thomas Taylor (52no) were the other main contributors.
