Leaders’ spot quickly taken from Elsecar

Just a week after going top of the Premier Division and taking over from long-time leaders Whitley Hall, Elsecar slipped to third after their two-point lead disappeared with defeat at Wickersley.

The Northfield Lane club set a target of 217-8 with James Bentley cracking 75 and Shahjaan Younis 74. Rob Jones was the best of the Elsecar bowlers with 5-78, but the Armroyd Laners fell for 201, Brett Hunsley hitting a half-ton, against the bowling of Haidar Jahangir and Christi Viljoen, each with four wickets.

Treeton also overtook Elsecar with victory at Rockingham, despite being without star all-rounder Steve Foster and only making a modest 130.

Umaid Asif struck 43 of those, with Love Kesh bagging 5-43 for the Rocks, who crumbled to just 63 against the skills of Scott Cunningham (5-17) and Asif (4-27).

In an afternoon punctuated by showers, Whitley Hall contained guests Barnsley to 102-8, South African Jaco Castle claiming 6-32,and replied with 104-4.

Wath skittled visitors Whiston for a mere 41, with everyone bar tailender Tahir Nawaz in single figures and Paul Wilkinson grabbing 7-4, to register a 10-wicket win.

Hallam held Bradfield to 162-9, with Josh Coulson top-scoring with 43, while three wickets each for Humphrey Emery and James Chetwood took three wickets apiece.

Hallam then eased their way to 165-6, with all-rounder Emery completed his day in style with a fine knock of 63, while Alex Davis added a welcome 44.

Elsecar Second XI came off second-best against Wath B in Division One. Shawn Hopkins scored 104 in the Wath tally of 288-5, while Elsecar stalled on 250-7.

Division One leaders Darfield were beaten at Treeton B, after the home side’s opener Richard Coleman struck a stylish 81 in an eventual total of 251-8, which proved too much for Darfield.

Tickhill junior Tom Barnett was all-rounder of the day with a 7-52 haul and an unbeaten half-century in the narrow win over Rossington.
