Leng takes nine as Tong collapse

Aire Wharfe: Bilton made an impressive return to Division One after a two-year absence with a seven-wicket win over Rawdon.

Andrew Walker (4-23) had the visitors on the back foot with only Duncan Stow (65) finding early form as Rawdon were bowled out for 147, a total Bilton passed in 43.3 overs thanks to opener Darren Blenkiron (62) and new recruit Chris Peareth (35).

Adel made sure defending champions Burley did not make the same decisive start as last season, Stuart Howie (60) and Tim Grey (45no) helping them to 229-6, a total they defended for a four-point draw despite the efforts of Mark Harrison (48) and Ryan Cooper (35).

Phil Critchley smashed 18 fours and a six on his way to 121 and put on 98 with Andy Johnson (46) as Beckwithshaw recovered from 42-4 to 234-9 but had to settle for four points as Green Lane eased their way to 203-7.

Leon Harber (68) and newcomer Adam Morgan (81) shared a century stand in Thackley’s 230-7 on their way to a 76-run win at Otley, while a half-century from Brian Leigh and spell of 4-50 from Toby Jacklin helped Collingham beat Guiseley by seven wickets.

Steve Harrison (87) and Jos Siddall (54) were the top scorers in Kirkstall’s 287-6 but promoted Follifoot replied with 259-5 of which Mick Halmshaw scored 89 and Jamie Ford 46.

The finish of the day came in Division Two where Knaresborough were chasing Upper Wharfedale’s 226 in which Anthony Barton (82) and James Freebury (69) shared a stand of 162. With seven balls left, Knaresborough needed three to win but opener Stuart Carey (101) was dismissed and Wharfedale managed to restrict the home side to a single run in the final over to take four points.

Steeton’s new Australian batsman McNamara put down a marker with 156 not out and put on 141 with Mark Taylor (63) but they had to settle for a draw because Calverley’s overseas player, Kankanamge Rajarthova, countered with 103 and new captain Gareth Lee weighed in with an unbeaten half-century.

On a day when batsmen enjoyed the Spring sunshine, Harden bowler Phil Leng stood out with his 10-over spell of 9-23 as Tong Park Esholt were skittled for 54 in reply to Harden’s 219-6.

Jason Wright was Ben Rhydding’s hero following up a 4-45 spell with a knock of 60 as they beat Olicanian by four wickets, while Pavez Khan’s unbeaten 74 off 37 balls was the highlight as North Leeds took five points off Menston.

Sam Wilkinson picked up 5-56 as Bolton Villas were dismissed for 189 and despite a 6-82 spell by Sam Lawrence, relegated Pool started their challenge with a three-wicket win.

Wetherby: Promoted Church Fenton made a flying start with a seven-wicket win against Division One champions St Chad’s.

Kendall Edgley (103no) and Altas Patel (50no) shared an unbroken 119-run stand as Fenton overhauled 210-7 that featured 75 by Matthew Stevens.

Garforth Parish Church, the other promoted team, lost by four wickets at Walton, for whom Dennis Rock (54) and Kooly Mahmood (35no) shared an unbroken 95-run match-winning partnership.

Matthew Wood (38no) and Ian Jenkins steered Barwick in Elmet to a seven-wicket win against Wetherby, who were sent reeling from 84-2 to 123 all out by Andy Bryant (3-9) and Robert Nicholls (3-18).

Warren Else (59) and Adam Tall (41) led Wetherby’s scoring.

Jarron Cook (5-48) and Richard Mollitt (63) were Old Modernians’ match-winners against Scarcroft.

All-rounder Andrew Thornhill bagged 5-59 and hit 34 and debutant Michael Cole struck an unbeaten half-century as Kirk Deighton beat Great Preston by five wickets.

Steve Crossland (62) and Basharat Rasool (35no) led Leeds Police to a six-wicket win at Shadwell, whose defeat was hard on Tariq Mohammed (53no), Aaron Avery (51) and Richard Grogan (46).

In Division Two, Pat Greenwood (132no) hammered the opening day’s highest individual score as Whixley recorded 275-2 against East Keswick, who made 224-8.

Greenwood put on 132 with New Zealander Stephen Venville (52) and shared an unbroken 135-run partnership with John Richardson (51no).

Promoted South Milford coasted to a 10-wicket win at Kippax, who were routed for 101 by John Cain (4-20) and Laurence White (2-12).

Openers James Liddle (51no) and Stuart Morley (36no) shared an unbroken 105-run stand as Milford won in 20 overs.

Openers Martin Wood (74no) and David Boyd (70no) guided Sicklinghall to a 10-wicket win at Kirk Hammerton and Stuart Cobbett (84) and Chris Huby (49) put on 137 as Old Leos beat Saxton by seven wickets.

Mohammed Ali and Dave Clark hit half-centuries in Thorner Mexborough’s 258-7 against Bramhope, who fell for 122, despite Anchou Shembeka’s 72.
