Losing run comes to end for Castleford

ECB Yorkshire (Sunday): Castleford ended a nightmare 12-match losing sequence in league and cup with a thrilling eight-run victory yesterday as opponents Sheffield United replaced them at the foot of the table.

Castleford captain Andrew Bourke fell one run short of his century but his team posted a respectable 261-5.

Mark Cummins (135) and Ben Percival (60) had an unbroken partnership of 128 for Sheffield, who fell just short of the Castleford total.

York extended their lead over nearest challengers Yorkshire Academy after sweeping aside Hull by 146 runs.

York declared their innings at 329-3 in 50 overs, century-makers Duncan Snell and Liam McKendry putting on a massive 239 for the second wicket.

George Ross top-scored for Harrogate with 85 against the Academy and Andy Hawkswell, batting at No 9, hit an undefeated 68.

Harrogate totalled 228-8 in their 55 overs but when the home side reached 132-2 rain caused an abandonment.

Simon Widdup plundered 113 off Rotherham Town’s attack, his innings including 15 fours and a six.

Driffield Town seamer Tom Chippendale took 7-36 from 9.5 overs in a win over Appleby Frodingham and although Jonathon Trower was dropped off the second ball he received, he went on to make 135 in Barnsley’s comfortable 129-run win against Cleethorpes.
