Mason and Brice cut loose for Woodlands

BRADFORD: Woodlands are 16-points clear in Division One after they beat Undercliffe by 69 runs to record their eighth-successive win.

An unbroken third-wicket stand of 172 between Simon Mason (96no) and Chris Brice (95no) saw Woodlands make 305-2 before limiting Undercliffe to 236-7.

Brice hit eight sixes and six fours off 54 balls while Mason struck five sixes and nine fours after Scott Richardson (59) and Sam Frankland (41) had laid the platform.

Matthew Bottomley (66), Zarak Khan (46) and Nawaz Sardar (45) were Undercliffe’s top batsmen.

With Farsley suffering an 82-run defeat at Cleckheaton and Bradford & Bingley losing by three wickets to East Bierley, Hanging Heaton regained second place after beating Gomersal by eight wickets.

Rob McFarlane (90), Mark Lawson (46) and Joe Fraser (37no) enabled them to race past Gomersal’s 194. Greg Pickles (58) and Andy Gorrod (39) provided the only bright spots for bottom team Gomersal as John Carruthers claimed 4-34.

Cleckheaton paceman Iain Wardlaw (6-33) bowled the prolific Lorenzo Ingram first ball as Farsley were dismissed for 156 in reply to Cleckheaton’s 238-4.

Former Cleckheaton player Craig Thornton battled hard for his 58 but Farsley never looked like challenging Cleckheaton’s score which owed much to the efforts of captain John Wood (82), ex Farsley man James Lee (62no) and Marcus Walmsley (43no). Lee and Walmsley shared an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 107.

East Bierley paceman Muhammad Azhar Ullah took 6-26 as they dismissed Bradford & Bingley for 96 to set up a three-wicket win.

Opener Adam Waite made 83 in his first Pudsey derby to help St Lawrence secure a one-wicket win over Congs.

St Lawrence almost let the game slip away as they lost five wickets for 35 to slip to 199-9 before a boundary by Steve Watts saw them pass Congs’ 203-7 with an over to spare.

Manningham Mills secured their third win in a row as they defeated Baildon by 23 runs to move up to fourth place. Gulsheraz Ahmed made 77 for Mills.

SOUTH YORKSHIRE: Premier Division leaders Whitley Hall have maintained their advantage over main title rivals Treeton.

Whitley became the joint-top scorers in the League when making 293-8 at home to Whiston.

South African all-rounder Jaco Castle struck an unbeaten 96, after opener Alex Welsh’s half-century. Steve Taylor conceded 75 for his five wickets for Whiston, who replied with 255-8, of which Sohail Aawn struck a boundary-littered 82.

Treeton contained Wickersley to 193-8, Shaajhan Younis cracking 68, and answered with 197-3, Steve Foster’s opening 57 followed by an unbeaten 62 from Danny Kemp.

Elsecar were not troubled to record a convincing win over hosts Houghton Main, Jason Meadows the top batsman with 58 of their 242-7. Houghton were then sent packing for 54 by Rob Jones, who took 7-26.

Wath took a maximum points haul from their visit to Rockingham after making a modest 155-9 with youngster Archie Ogden striking 59. Andy Shore returned 6-39 for Rockingham, who slumped to 86 all out, Paul Wilkinson taking 3-12.

Hallam came in at 195-9 at Barnsley, teenager Jamie Green picking up 4-41 for the Shaw Lane men, who closed on 154-8.

Junior Green also shone with the bat, making 51, and another teenager, Ben O’Brien, made 40 against the bowling of Dan Holmes (4-43).

Bradfield’s South African star Matt McGillvray played another fine innings at Aston Hall, striking 109 out of 216-8. Aston were just short at 195-9, opener Samrat Sharma hitting 76, and McGillvray rounding off his day with a 4-52 stint.

Division One side Coal Aston were joint top scorers of the day, reaching 293-7 to beat hosts Kexborough, thanks to a 22-boundary 148 from Nick Horsfield, and a tremendous spell of 8-17 from Josh Cross.

Those figures were bettered by Conisbrough B’s Craig Jackson, who took 9-44 in the Division Four win over Worsbrough.

SOLLY CENTRAL YORKSHIRE: Yorkshire wicketkeeper Gerard Brophy, left out of the Championship game against Durham, hit an unbeaten 111 off 101 balls to steer Premier Division champions Wrenthorpe to an eight-wicket win against strugglers Wakefield St Michael’s.

Tom Glover (4-36) and David Paynter (3-58) restricted St Michael’s to 191-8 which Wrenthorpe overhauled in 30.3 overs to stay one point behind leaders Methley, who won by 25 runs at Northowram Fields.

Hemantha Alles (41no) and John Rickers (40no) shared an unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 68 as Methley recovered from 141-8 to post 209-8 in a 41-over match.

Northowram were 137-1 but finished on 184-8 after Sri Lankan all-rounder Alles bagged 4-72 and left-arm spinner Simon Purdy 3-40. Norhowram’s defeat was tough on Mark Gillliver who snapped up 5-32 and struck 60 in a century partnership with Australian Heath Pyke (51).

Wakefield Thornes and New Farnley maintained their title challenges.

An unbroken century stand between Richard Foster (70no) and Matthew Jordan (47no) guided Thornes to their eighth successive league win at Altofts who were limited to 148-8 by Derek Colquhoun (3-27) and Gary Rhodes (2-20).

Chris Budd (58) led Altofts’ scoring.

Jonathan Boynton’s half-century was in vain for Mirfield Parish Cavaliers in a 15-run defeat against New Farnley, for whom Dan Busfield and David McCallum each claimed three wickets.

Bottom side Ossett slumped to a 10th successful league defeat when Hunslet Nelson’s Rob Barker (7-29) sent them reeling from 73-1 to 90 all out.

Tommy Roy finished unbeaten on 53 as Hunslet coasted to an eight-wicket win.

John Trower (127no) and Tim Walton (96) put on 236 for the first wicket as Townville piled up 304-3 against Birstall.

Khurram Chohan (4-49) limited Birstall’s reply to 231-9 which included 77 by Craig Wood.

Liversedge have a six-point lead in Division One after Methley fell for 81 against Tom Smith (5-8) and Simon Kay (4-33).
