Morris six-hit spree leads title charge

Replying to the home side’s 177-6, in which Tauseeq Raza made an undefeated 79, Morris hammered nine fours and nine sixes. The victory saw Hoylandswaine extend their lead to nine points over Elland, who are slipping off the rails after three defeats in their last four league and cup matches.

Elland looked in good shape after bowling out Delph & Dobcross for 125 but spinner Arron Lilley hit back with 7-55 in 22.1 overs and Elland were dismissed 15 runs short.

Third-placed Golcar lost by one wicket at Scholes for whom last pair Adam France and Richard Holmes put on 26 runs. Chasing Golcar’s 147, Scholes lost the prolific Wasim Jaffer for four on their way to victory. Andy Alsop played his part in the win by taking 4-32 in 15 overs.

Pace bowler Muhammed Azhar Ullah took 7-43 in 11 hostile overs for Shelley, who were eight- wicket winners over Hall Bower in a game reduced to 25 overs-a-side. Opener Shabir Rashid scored more than half Hall Bower’s 103 runs, striking seven fours and two sixes in his innings of 64. All-rounder Bilal Khiljee made an unbeaten half-century and took three wickets for Shelley.

Greg Buckley’s undefeated 111 was the highlight of Kirkburton’s 124 runs eclipse of Slaithwaite, who still await their first league win. Buckley hit eight fours and seven sixes and there was a half-century from Andrew Smith as Kirkburton amassed 253-4. .

Simon Kelly and Richard Jakeman had an opening partnership of 72 for Honley, Max Joice and Danny Howard adding 60 for the third wicket in a seven-wicket victory against visitors Skelmanthorpe. Max Morley removed four Skelmanthorpe batsmen for 36.

Shepley enjoyed a 46-run home win over Clayton West. Danny Wood took 5-35 in 10 overs as Shepley totalled 175-9. Ashley Thompson hit a half-century in reply, but Sarjinder Pal Singh claimed 5-73 in 23 overs and Danny Glover took 3-45 in 19.3.
