Rehman rips into Nottinghamshire to boost Somerset

Abdur Rehman marked his Clydesdale Bank 40 debut with 6-16 – a Somerset record in 40-over cricket – to help them to a five-wicket victory in their Group B match against Nottinghamshire at Taunton.

The Pakistan international extracted turn and bounce from the pitch as Notts struggled to 206-9, having been 96-1 in the 14th over. Riki Wessels hit 53, Michael Lumb 41 and Graeme White 39 not out.

Somerset needed only 29.2 overs to reach their target, Craig Kieswetter leading the way with a rapid 44 and skipper Marcus Trescothick seeing his side home with 87 not out, off 69 balls, with 10 fours and a six.

Phil Mustard plundered his second century in as many days to inspire Durham to a 59-run Group B victory over Glamorgan at Chester-le-Street.

Mustard took up where he left off in his 143 against Surrey – who they beat by 142 runs on Saturday – by scorching to a 55-ball century, compared with 100 balls for fellow opener Mark Stoneman and 84 for the Dragons’ Mark Wallace.

With Gordon Muchall chipping in with 75, Durham amassed 307-2, but the visitors were on target to overhaul them until Wallace fell for 105, his maiden one-day century, before Glamorgan were all out, with Marcus North chipping in with 59, for 248 after 36.2 overs.

Lancashire Lightning stormed to the top of Group A in the competition with a very comfortable nine-wicket victory over the Netherlands at Old Trafford.

In a match reduced to 27 overs by early rain, Glen Chapple’s bowlers dismissed the visitors for 68 in 20.5 overs and knocked off the runs in only 16.3 overs.

Opener Stephen Moore continued his good form in one-day cricket this season by making 50 not out off 54 balls and Steven Croft was 14 not out when the winning single was taken.

Spinners Gary Keedy and Stephen Parry did most of the damage for Lancashire, Keedy taking 3-15 and Parry 3-13.

Seamer Ajmal Shazad – on loan from neighbouring Yorkshire – finished with 2-7 from his four overs.

Sam Billings hit the highest-ever one-day total by a Kent player at Canterbury and Darren Stevens snared five wickets in 19 balls to ease the Spitfires to an emphatic 111-run win over struggling Derbyshire.

Billings scored 143 runs from 113 balls, including 17 boundaries and one six, before he was dismissed in the final over of the innings.

Needing 6.22 an over for an unlikely win, Derbyshire were always up against it, particularly after a tight opening spell from Mark Davies of 3-25.

Any lingering hopes were completely blown away when Darren Stevens replaced Davis at the Nackington Road End to bag 5-36 – including a 19-ball purple patch of 5-7 that eased the home side to victory.
